Losing a pet is a heartbreaking experience, and the search for a missing pet can sometimes seem hopeless. In Fresno County, fewer than 10% of the dogs that enter shelters are reunited with their owners. For us at Fresno Humane, that’s a frustrating statistic. Dogs and cats simply can’t tell us where they live or what their parent’s phone number is… UNLESS they have an ID tag or a microchip, that is! Pets with microchips are five times more likely to return home safely than pets without them. And pets wearing ID tags don’t HAVE to come to our shelter because finders have an easy way to get them home quickly!

The best way to keep your pet safe is to have them microchipped AND keep an ID tag on their collar at all times. Tags don’t have to be fancy—a simple phone number is all that’s really required to ensure that you’ll be contacted if your furry family member wanders off. Fresno Humane offers $5.00 engraved metal ID tags during regular business hours. Microchipping is a permanent form of identification that takes just seconds to administer.  Don't wait until it's too late to microchip your pet!    Fresno Humane Animal Services offers microchips for only $10.00 (includes registration). If your pet is microchipped, be sure to keep your information up-to-date with the chip company—a microchip that leads to a disconnected phone number and an old address isn’t much help!
